Creating a layer comp

To create a layer comp, you work with the Layers palette and the Layer Comp palette.

To create a layer comp:

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Choose Window > Layer Comps to bring up the Layer Comp palette. Click the Create New Layer Comp button New button at the bottom of the Layer Comps palette. The new comp will be based on the current state of layers in the Layers palette.
    • To duplicate a comp, select a comp in the Layer Comps palette and choose Duplicate Comp from the Layer Comps palette menu Display palette menu button , or drag the comp to the New comps button.
  2. In the New Layer Comp dialog box, name the comp, add descriptive comments, and choose options to apply to layers: Visibility (defaults to On), Position, and Appearance. Then click OK. Note that any new comp preserves the options you chose for the previous one, so you won't have to go through all these choices again if you want them to be identical.
  3. To change your comp options, select Layer Comp Options from the palette menu, or double click the layer comp you want to change (Don't double click the name of the layer comp, as that will let you change only the name.) As you make changes, periodically click the Update Layer Comp button Uncached Refresh button at the bottom of the Comps palette (make sure that the comp you want to update is selected).
